Animal Mummies

Mummified animals were common in ancient Egypt.  Sometimes, beloved pets were mummified and given elaborate coffins of their own or tucked into their owners' coffins.  However, most of the time, animals were mummified to serve as votive offerings to the gods or to serve as food for the deceased.
