The god of the sky, Horus was the son of Osiris and Isis.  After Osiris's death and embalming, Horus took over his father's role as ruler of Egypt, following his defeat of Set.  Egyptian pharaohs were believed to be the earthly incarnation of Horus.  Horus protected and guided the souls of the deceased through the underworld.
