The natron was removed and the body was washed with wine and water from the Nile.  Then, it was rubbed with oil to keep the skin soft and with incense to mask the smell, and it was coated with tree resin to seal the skin and protect it from bugs and moisture.  Following, the deceased was wrapped in several layers of linen.  Amulets were placed inside the linen for further protection.
