Finally, the mummy was laid to rest inside a sarcophagus that was shaped and painted to resemble the deceased.  If the deceased was wealthy, he/she might also have a mask, a breastplate, or even multiple, nesting sarcophagi.  The sarcophagus was encased in a stone coffin and placed inside a tomb.
